5-day Southern WA Dairy Farm, Pastures and Products Agricultural Tour

In 5 days you will travel over 500km and visit two leading-edge dairy farmers growing and milking dairy cows.

You will observe production, storage and transport stages of the dairy farming process. An Agricultural Scientist will accompany you for 3 days in the rural areas. A City tour guide will accompany you for 3 days in the city areas.

The sub-climates of southern Western Australia range from dry Mediterranean coastal sandplains to the higher rainfall clay soils of the great southern farms. Your accommodation will take advantage of this unique geography: Two coastal hotel properties with the ocean at your doorstep; one rural community stay in the higher rainfall South-west region, and one hotel in the bustling capital city of Perth.

WA Seasons and when to visit

The best times to view our dryland agriculture are from June to October each year.
January–March:
Summer weather. Maximum day temperature 25 to 40 degrees Celsius. Minimum night temperature 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. Agricultural produce growing during this period: Grapes, sheep, cattle. It is a very dry period in our year.
April–May:
Autumn weather. Maximum day temperature 15 to 28 degrees Celsius. Minimum night temperature 7 to 10 degrees Celsius. Crops planted in this autumn period: Wheat, Genetically Modified Canola, Barley, Lupins. Farmers are busy from mid-April to late May with their crop planting program (seeding) so variations to the itinerary may be made. Grape vines dormant.
June–August:
Winter weather. Maximum daily temperature 10 to 20 degrees Celsius. Minimum night temperature 0 to 10 degrees Celsius. Crops are at tillering and ground cover stage of growth. Recommended time to visit.
September–November:
Spring weather. Maximum day temperature 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. Minimum night temperature 7 to 10 degrees Celsius. Crops are flowering, filling their seed heads and finishing off ready for harvest by November. Recommended time to visit.
December:
Summer weather. Maximum daily temperature 25 to 35 degrees Celsius. Minimum night temperature 15 to 20 degrees Celsius. Farmers are busy with harvesting program from mid-November to end of December so it is not recommended to visit at this time.
